Terms of Use

These Terms of Use apply to visits to Rancho Santa Margarita Residents Directory and to information reached through its links. By using the reference, you accept these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the pages or the search tools.

1. What This Reference Is

Rancho Santa Margarita Residents Directory is privately operated. It describes and links to public rolls, indexes, library collections, and record sources that may show who owns, occupies, or once appeared in records connected with Rancho Santa Margarita, Orange County, and California. It does not host government files and is not affiliated with the City of Rancho Santa Margarita, Orange County, California, any court, library, or custodian.

2. Lawful Rules for Use

Use the reference and anything reached through it only for a lawful purpose. You may not:

  • Stalk, harass, intimidate, threaten, or harm a person.
  • Use a record to locate someone protected by a restraining or protective order.
  • Commit identity theft, fraud, impersonation, or trespass.
  • Make an FCRA-regulated decision about credit, employment, tenant matters, insurance, or another covered purpose.
  • Scrape, copy, or republish the pages at scale.
  • Interfere with the operation, security, or availability of the service.

3. No Consumer Reporting Agency Status

This service is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, 15 U.S.C. section 1681 and following. The material on these pages and results returned by linked tools are not consumer reports. They may not be used to judge eligibility for credit, employment, housing, insurance, or another purpose regulated by the FCRA.

4. External Portals and Services

City, county, state, court, library, and third-party portals publish their own terms, fees, access rules, and privacy practices. Sponsored search tools are also operated by third parties. Rancho Santa Margarita Residents Directory is not responsible for their content, availability, pricing, security, or data handling.

5. No Warranty of Accuracy

The pages and links are supplied as is and as available. No warranty promises that a description, fee, coverage year, portal field, office contact, directory title, or linked result is complete, current, or correct. Public records change, and a custodian's live system controls over a summary here.

6. Liability Limits

To the maximum extent allowed by law, the operators are not liable for direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, special, or similar damages arising from a visit, a linked resource, a search result, a service interruption, or a decision made using information reached through the reference.

7. Indemnity

You agree to defend and hold harmless the operators from a claim, demand, loss, or expense, including reasonable attorneys' fees, that arises from your misuse of the pages, misuse of a linked record, or breach of these terms.

8. Text, Design, and Logo

The original writing, design, logo, and layout are protected by copyright. A link to a page and a brief attributed quotation are welcome. Full-page republication, systematic copying, and bulk extraction are not permitted without written authorization.

9. Changes to These Terms

New terms may be posted when the service, law, or record-linking practice changes. Continued use after the revised wording appears means that the updated terms govern later visits.

10. Access Restrictions

The operators may block, suspend, or restrict access when a user violates these terms, abuses a search tool, threatens the service, or creates a security concern. This may occur without advance notice where necessary to protect the service or another person.

11. California Governing Law

California law governs these terms without regard to conflict-of-law principles. The California Public Records Act is Government Code section 7920.000 and following, including the rules for requests, exemptions, response determinations, and direct duplication costs. California privacy obligations may also arise under Civil Code section 1798.100 and following, including the Consumer Privacy Act and the Delete Act provisions in section 1798.99.80 and following. Those statutes govern the relevant custodian or business; they do not turn this private reference into a government office.

12. Severability

If a court finds one part of these terms unenforceable, the remaining terms continue in effect to the extent the law permits.

13. Questions About the Terms

Questions about these Terms of Use may be sent through the Contact page. Questions about a deed, court file, voter record, certificate, or city document must go to the custodian named for that record.
